The ‘Modern Love’ tour, held at the African Caribbean Centre, Maidstone Road, presented spoken word artists offering their perspective on love in the 21st century. Artists Malika Booker and Charlie Dark were joined by Roger Robinson and DJ A-Clyde for a spectacular evening of cutting edge spoken word and music.

‘Modern Love’ was recently nominated for Best Theatre/Play at the 2002 EMMAs (Ethnic Multicultural Media Awards). The play is devised and presented by literature promotion agency – Renaissance One.

Local teenagers also attended special workshops, held by the touring artists, to write their own response to ‘what is modern love?’ The best work from the sessions were performed live on stage as a certain raiser to the main show, giving young people in Leicester the chance to share the stage with internationally acclaimed artists.

The ‘Everybody’s Reading’ festival celebrates books and literature, and aims to get people reading with over 50 events throughout the city.

A book -- ‘Modern Love’ -- featuring prose, poetry and commentary on modern love, is also available.
